Schoolyard standoff - on page 7,author's name is Nancy Stone/Tribune / 09/07/2011
Mayor Emanuel and schools CEO Jeanclaude Brizard raised the stakes Tuesday in their effort to add 90 minutes to Chicago's school day by offering financial incentives to elementary schools that adopt the plan even as negotiations with the Chicago Teachers Union have stalled. Union members argue the waiver process was unfair, and that teachers should should have been given 48 hours' notice before the vote rather than voting on the same day issue was raised. There is pressure being put on teachers.
In my opinion it is advantage for the kids, because each day of school will be longer about 90 minutes, and there will be possible to see progress after couple months, and years .. It will be just easier to take some kind of test or as I was at high school teachers put pressure to be prepare for ACT test. Another think which is unfair is that in my opinion teachers should have been informed earlier-at least month before .
